Skyler is a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog. They were bred to pursue and drive unruly game/stock (such as wild boar and cattle) out of swampy county such as Louisiana. Many potential dog owners are not prepared to deal with the breed's tough mindedness, strength, and high energy level. (Me?! I love a challenge!) Sky is shown here at 5 months of age as we are starting Agility Puppy Obstacle Familiarization.

Now that he is a year, he has learned basic obedience, is in the confirmation competition, and is gearing up for an obedience, agility career. Sky also helps me train clients' dogs who have inappropriate behavior, whether toward family, strangers, or other objects. He recognizes inappropriate behavior, and will gently correct/persuade another dog, just like a slow moving sledgehammer. He does it calmly, never growls or bites, just pursues them, and sets the example. I have never seen a breed/puppy that could do this.

Skyler is pictured here at 1 1/2 yr. He has easily moved his way into the pack position right below me. No need for pushing, shoving, or growling. Just a steady, confident presence that moves the other pack members aside. He is always willing to do as asked, and is a great example for younger pack member, Tobiano. Sky is happiest when by his mama's side!

Sky is a fine example of what this misunderstood breed is capable of becoming. A great bloodline, environment and education will lead to success every time.
